The company was formed in 1951 by James W Calvert.   Mr. Calvert was a decorated veteran of World War One. While serving in France he was blinded from a bullet wound. After some time at the Maryland School for the Blind he recovered partial use of his sight and went on to start several small businesses. The last of which he began at the age of 56.

Seeing the potential for a railing that would not rust he worked diligently wearing thick glasses supplemented with a large magnifying glass. After experimenting with several designs he began the manufacture of an aluminum railing the basics of which are still in use today.

Many improvements have been made over the years such as the white and black finish, and strengthening of the components but the original classic design is still there. After the death in 1964 of Mr. Calvert, his sons Tim and Jim continued the business and are still active in it. Jim's son Steve works in sales and his son, the great grandson of the founder designed our web site. Also active in the company and now one of the principals is Jay Connor. Jay a former all star in soccer and lacrosse, earned his MBA and was active for many years with a manufacturer of windows. The company was located in Towson, Md. for 35 years. In January of 2002, the business was moved to Baldwin, Md. The new location is larger and located where four streets come together giving us and our customers much improved access. In the first nine months at the new location business improved by over thirty percent.
